Greenwich Barber Shop Closing After 20 Years

Village Barbers in Old Greenwich has announced they will not reopen after more than 20 years in business.

GREENWICH, CT — As the state looks ahead to possibly reopening hair salons and barber shops soon, one Greenwich staple will sadly remain shuttered. Village Barbers, located on Sound Beach Avenue, announced last week they will not be reopening.

In a Facebook post, owner BJ Mocarski expressed gratitude to all of her shop's loyal customers and said she was "looking forward to pursuing new interests" and taking time to travel. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"I thank you all for being loyal to Village Barbers for [over] twenty years," Mocarski said on Facebook. "Through a great economy, through a recession and through unending bridge and drainage construction, you continued to support us."

According to their website, Village Barbers opened in the spring of 1999. Mocarski was already a familiar face to the area prior to opening up shop, having worked in Old Greenwich since the 1980s.

Offering "quality cuts for the whole family," Village Barbers promised customers great haircuts from friendly staff members at an affordable price. The shop also offered hair coloring and foil highlighting services.

"It has been a wonderful career," Mocarski said. "Thank you for your years of loyalty."

On Monday, Gov. Ned Lamont and Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo jointly announced they are pushing back the reopening of barbershops and hair salons to early June. Originally hair services in Connecticut were scheduled to restart Wednesday.

"We've been hearing a lot of feedback from many owners and employees," Lamont said Monday, "and at this time I think the best approach is that we hit pause on the reopening of hair salons and barbershops, take a step back, and allow some more time as preparations continue to be made."
