Greenwich Boater Gets Stuck On A Rock Off Mead Point: Police

The incident occurred Friday morning, May 25.

GREENWICH, CT — While we all know how rough the seas can get, make sure you don't forget about the rocks, a lesson a Greenwich boater learned the hard way late Friday morning.

At about 11:30 a.m., the Greenwich Police Marine section received a mayday call that a 42-foot post cabin cruiser had run aground just off Mead Point. The boater and their companion had just left Cos Cob Harbor when the cruiser struck Red Rock and got lodged on top, according to a post on the police department's Facebook page.

The marine police, Coast Guard and Sea Tow all responded to the scene, but there wasn't much they could do.

"After attempting to remove the vessel from the rock it was determined that the boat could not be removed and would have to remain until the tide rose sufficiently," wrote Greenwich police, adding that the crash appeared to be due to operator error. "The two persons aboard were not injured and were removed from The Vessel by the Greenwich Police Marine section."

Fortunately, the boat's fuel tanks were not damaged, so the owner made arrangements to have the boat removed at high tide.
