Greenwich Choral Society Announces Scholarship Winners

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Choral Society recently announced the recipients of the 2022 Nathalie Rutherford Scholarship Award.

The recipients of the $3,000 award are Brooke Hadden, of Greenwich, and Jane Sheehan, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. The two were honored at the Choral Society's 2022 annual meeting.

Hadden is a senior at Greenwich High School. In addition to being chosen for the Honors Chamber Singers, the Honors Madrigals and the Greenwich Honor Choir at the high school, Hadden has participated in the Connecticut All State Festival, the Connecticut Western Regional Festival, the All-Eastern Honors Ensemble and opened for the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall with the Greenwich Performing Arts Studio.

Hadden has extensive experience in theater, appearing in: "Into the Woods," "Moon Over Buffalo," "Julius Caesar," "Twelfth Night," "Bye Bye Birdie," "Beauty and the Beast," "Pajama Game," "Shrek the Musical," "Grease," "Winter’s Tale" and "Apollo of Bellac."

While in grade school she participated in theater classes at the Metzenthin Theater in Zurich, Switzerland and appeared in theater productions in Zurich and Singapore. She was inducted into the Greenwich High School Thespian Troupe No. 243, an Honor Society requiring three or more lead roles and a position of responsibility in theater performances.

Hadden plans to continue pursuing her love of choral singing and of performing in musical theater as a part of her continuing educational experience. She will be attending American University in Washington, D.C.

Sheehan is a senior at Putnam Valley High School. She has trained at the Manhattan School of Music as a pre-college voice major. She has participated in the World Youth Honors Choir at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, the New York State School Music Association Area All-State Music and Solo Festivals, the Carnegie Hall Middle School Honors Junior Choir and the Putnam Valley A Capella and Theaterworks groups.

Her training includes Master Classes at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, classes at the Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, Manhattan School of Music and Young Actors at Lee Strasberg.

She is the recipient of a number of awards including: membership in the Tri-M Music National Honor Society, the Putnam Valley Academic Award for High Achievement in Chorus, the English National Honor Society and the Putnam Valley High School English and Citizen Awards.

Sheehan will attend Bard College Conservatory of Music in the five-year double degree program in voice performance and creative writing.

The Greenwich Choral Society sponsors the competition for the annual Nathalie Rutherford Scholarship Award of $3,000. Any senior attending school in Fairfield or Westchester County who intends to pursue further study in vocal or choral music is encouraged to apply.
