GREENWICH, CT — The nominating committee for Greenwich Democrats this week recommended a slate of candidates for the 2023 municipal election this November.

"We’re proud of our recommended candidates. They offer a reprieve from the divisive politics we’ve seen emerging in Greenwich," said Greenwich Democratic Town Committee Chair Joe Angland, in a news release. "This slate is a promise to town residents that they have a chance to turn the page on aimless agendas and the creeping influence of extremism. We’ve put forward a slate of candidates for the upcoming municipal elections who bring together facts, vision, and competence."

By state law, the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee will hold its nominating convention to endorse candidates at its July 20 meeting.

Greenwich Republicans will also endorse their candidates next month. First Selectman Fred Camillo and Selectwoman Lauren Rabin, along with Town Clerk Jackie Budkins, are running for reelection.

Leading the Democratic ticket is First Selectperson candidate Laura Erickson, a former banker and current member of the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET).

Along with incumbent Selectperson Janet Stone McGuigan and the committee’s six recommendations for the BET, Erickson announced a vision for burnishing the quality of life and economic vitality that protect our property values.

"We will address key issues that have for too long been kicked to the next year: traffic, stewardship of town and school infrastructure, and public safety," Erickson said, according to a news release. "It’s time for thoughtful, prudent planning to meet the needs of our residents and taxpayers. We must solve our challenges versus sidestepping them."

Erickson is in her second term on the BET, currently serving on the BET Budget Committee. She is a past chair of the Board of Education and served on the Representative Town Meeting for over a decade on both the Finance and Health & Human Services Committees. She is a 30-year resident of Greenwich.

The six BET candidates, three of whom are incumbents, have decades of banking and finance leadership, as well as town government and volunteer experience.

Cos Cob Democrat Jim Finn, who recently announced his candidacy for First Selectmen, pulled out of the nomination process.

"In the name of party unity, I will step aside so this Democratic slate can start campaigning tomorrow," Finn said in a news release. "The other side is already out there with bumper stickers. Time for Democrats to get moving. And let’s win in November."
