UPDATE: 2 Seriously Injured When Wall Collapses at Greenwich Construction Site

Update: 5:35 a.m. Sept. 16:

Two construction workers were seriously injured when a wall collapsed at a work site on North Street Tuesday.

It was at 4:52 p.m. when Greenwich Police and Fire departments and Greenwich Emergency Medical Service were sent to the scene in the 600 block of North Street where a crew of 12 workers were working on an outbuilding on the property.

According to Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, “In a remote section of a large property in the backcountry 12 workers were attempting to lift a section of wall, 25 feet long and 15 feet tall constructed of 2”x8” LCL manufactured lumber with 3/4-inch plywood sheathing. The wall was lifted approximately shoulder height when two of the workers went under the section of and the wall dropped. The section of wall was lifted off of the victims by the other crew members and a foreman with first aid training rendered medical assistance.”

Gray said when emergency services personnel arrived, “the construction crew created a impromptu ramp to assist in the rapid and stable extrication of their injured coworkers.”

The workers suffered crushing injuries including broken bones to their legs and chest, Gray said.

The workers were taken to the Stamford Hospital “where their current condition unknown however one of the workers suffered serious and potentially life threatening injuries. The scene has been turned over to the state of CT OSHA for follow up,” Gray said.

The identities of the victims, the name of the company that they work for, and the owner of the property were not immediately available.

The Greenwich Fire Department is reporting Tuesday evening that there is a wall collapse on North Street.

Greenwich Fire is reporting via Twitter about 5:25 p.m., the incident is “Reported as a wall collapse with 2 patients on North Street.”
