Greenwich Fire Department Hires 6 New Firefighters, Promotes 2
The department welcomed six new recruits into the ranks on Monday, and promoted two veteran members to lieutenant.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Fire Department promoted two firefighters and welcomed six new recruits into the ranks on Monday.
The new class of GFD recruits includes three current town volunteer firefighters: Leighton White, Nicholas Cesarini and Brian Kelly, to go along with Kevin Proe from Watertown, CT, Patrick Sexton of Ridgefield, CT, and Brian Mahany of New York City.
The two firefighters promoted to lieutenant included Dustin Holt, a 14-year veteran of the GFD, and Daniel Byrne, an 11-year veteran.

New hires:
The GFD said in a news release Monday it has recently seen retirements remove over 200 years of expertise and experience from the ranks, but the department was able to secure spots in the 15-week Connecticut Fire Academy recruit program starting Aug. 29.

Over 100 people were in attendance at GFD Headquarters Monday, including First Selectman and Fire Commissioner Fred Camillo, state Reps. Steve Meskers (D-150) and Harry Arora (R-151), and state Sen. Ryan Fazio (R-36).
"The Greenwich Fire Department thanks the town leadership for guidance and the BET and RTM for funding to promote and replenish the ranks of the department to continue to serve the constituents of Greenwich," the GFD said in a news release.
