Greenwich Fire Truck Involved In Crash: FD

The crash occurred as Engine 8 was responding to a call "in the wintery weather" early Thursday morning, the fire department said.

GREENWICH, CT — A Greenwich fire truck was involved in a crash in the Backcountry early Thursday morning, according to the Greenwich Fire Department.

Members of the GFD on the truck were taken to the hospital as a precaution, and all have been released, the department said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash occurred on Lake Avnue as Engine 8 was responding to a call "in the wintery weather," the fire department said. Photos of the crash posted by the GFD on Facebook show the truck sideways across the road with downed wires and a broken utility pole.

Greenwich police announced at 5:50 a.m. that an extended road closure would be in place on Lake Avenue between Burying Hill Road and Old Mill Road due to pole damage from an accident.

GFD Chief Joseph McHugh told Patch it's "hard to tell" if the truck was badly damaged.
