Greenwich High Apologizes for Football 'Hitler' Play

The term "Hitler" was used as a play call. The Greenwich High headmaster apologized for the practice.

GREENWICH, CT—A Trumbull mom couldn't believe her ears when she heard that the Greenwich High School freshman football team uses a play called "Hitler."

The signal for the play is an index finger across the upper-lip, according to the Connecticut Post.

Mother Debbie Levison talked to Assistant Varsity Coach James Briggs and he confirmed that they use a play called Hitler.

High school administrators and the head varsity football coach have reached out to the Trumbull community, Trumbull High principal and a local temple to offer an apology.

The team and coaches met with a representative of the Anti Defamation League Friday to ensure the understanding that it was offensive.

"Through this message, I extend our apology on behalf of Greenwich High School, to the entire Greenwich and Trumbull communities and beyond for this admittedly offensive practice," Winters said.
