Greenwich High Jazz Ensemble Wows With Music Video

Each student recorded his or her part at home to put together an impressive performance of a big band favorite.

GREENWICH, CT — With school closed and everyone at home, Greenwich High School students are hard at work, attending classes digitally and preparing for the end of a roller coaster of a school year. The school's jazz ensemble is no different, focusing on ways to make music together while having to stay apart from each other.

Though the school's annual jazz festival has been canceled, the ensemble has still found a way to share their music with the entire community. Under the direction of the high school's associate director of bands, Jason Polise, the students recently released a video of the ensemble performing the famous big band tune "This Can't Be Love."

The students all played their parts from their respective homes, which were then put together by Polise, according to a release.

"The Greenwich High School jazz ensemble has used this time apart as an opportunity to learn how to record and collaborate virtually as studio musicians," Polise said in a statement. "I could not be more proud of these students."

The ensemble is hoping to share their music in hopes of inspiring other high school musicians across the country who are unable to collaborate in person.

"We've had a blast putting this together," Polise said, "and [we] are working on our next release already."
