Greenwich High School Athletic Program Receives National Recognition

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich High School athletics had another stellar year across 2025-2026, and now the school's athletic program is receiving national recognition.

The program finished fourth in this year's MaxPreps Cup, which recognizes the best high school sports programs in the country.

The competition uses an algorithm that awards points for state championships, runner-up finishes and national rankings based on size of state, popularity of the sport, size of school and number of teams in each playoff division, the MaxPreps website notes.

GHS earned 2,308 points, behind Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tenn.) with 2,423 points, St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) with 2,742 points, and Carmel High School (Carmel, Ind), which placed first with 2,906 points.

This was Greenwich's highest finish in the MaxPreps Cup.

"Student-athletes at Greenwich High School continue to excel in both the classroom and on the playing field. We are incredibly proud of these young adults who represent themselves, their families, and an entire community with integrity, dedication, and pride," Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones said in an emailed statement to Patch.

"Funding high-quality facilities upholds the commitment for our student-athletes and the overall success of GPS’ programs by the Town of Greenwich."

MaxPreps listed the following accomplishments for GHS in 2025-2026:

• Spring state championships: Girls tennis, boys tennis
• Spring state runners-up: Boys track, girls track
• Winter state championships: Boys indoor track, boys swimming, girls basketball, girls indoor track
• Fall state championships: Boys cross country, football, girls soccer, girls swimming, girls volleyball
• Fall state runners-up: Boys soccer, girls cross country

The only other school from Connecticut on the list is New Canaan High School, which placed 59th with 1,339 points.
