Greenwich Historical Society’s Tavern Garden Market Returns Wednesday

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Historical Society will stage its first Tavern Garden Market of the season at its Cos Cob campus on May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Featuring special events and all things "Home," there will be something for everyone including delicious locally sourced farm-to-table organic produce, farm-fresh eggs, baked goods, flowers and distinctive one-of-a-kind gifts, fashion accessories, including vintage jewelry and crafts and environmentally sourced beauty products.

The market will continue on alternating Wednesdays through Nov. 2.

"Our debut season last year was a big hit for our vendors and the community, far exceeding our expectations," saidHistorical Society Manager of Special Events Daniel Suozzo in a news releaae. "We are welcoming back favorite vendors and a host of new ones, in addition to staging specially curated events to entertain and delight attendees in their support of local growers, producers and artisans. A stroll through our colorful campus gardens followed by a stop at the Museum Store and the Artists Café for a snack will complete the sensory experience."

Tavern Garden Market vendors include Bear Creek Farms whose award-winning blooms spanning eight varieties of peonies and magnificent dahlias can be ordered in advance for pick up at the market; a wide variety of delicious locally sourced food and baked goods providers, including Double L Market, Versailles Farm, Do-Re-Mi Farms, Muggers Marrow, Oronoque Farm, Molly & Mags, The Cheese Guy, and Wave Hill Breads; distinctive home entertaining and fashion accessories providers spanning Studio 36, The Sakonett River Co., Brooks Works Studio, LLF Studio, Cynthia Alexander and clean beauty provider Beauty Counter.

Special events for May markets:

The ‘Silhouette Lady’ offers personalized Mother’s Day gifts Just in time for Mother’s Day gift giving, Deborah O’Connor will delight with her unique hand-cut silhouettes of family members and pets. Sitting appointments are recommended and walk-ins are welcome as space permits, or a right-facing photo can be created on site at the May 4 event.

Japanese Art and Culture: Bush-Holley House tours in honor of Asia Heritage Month Market attendees will have an opportunity to learn how Japanese art and culture were understood and imitated by American artists of the Cos Cob art colony and receive an introduction to the life and work of artist Genjiro Yeto (1867-1924), a Japanese immigrant who frequented the Holley family boardinghouse, and established a career as a successful illustrator of books for American audiences.

Guided Tours take place on May 4 and 18th at 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. and include self-guided access to the Greenwich Historical Society Museum Galleries. Tickets are: $10 adults, $8 seniors.
