Greenwich To Hold Unity Rally In Support Of Israel

The event will feature remarks from local religious and town leaders, and the Israeli flag will be raised outside Greenwich Town Hall.

GREENWICH, CT — First Selectman Fred Camillo announced Wednesday that the town of Greenwich will host a unity rally to stand with Israel on Friday, Oct. 13, at 11:30 a.m., outside Town Hall.

The event is being put together in partnership between the town, UJA-JCC Greenwich and AJC Westchester/Fairfield. It will feature local religious and town leaders coming together with the public to show support for the nation of Israel following the terrorist attacks of last weekend.

The Town of Greenwich will raise the Israeli flag as part of the event to show solidarity with Israel during the ongoing war.

"Every day we are learning more about the horrors of this unprovoked attack on Israel," Camillo said in a news release. "The deliberate attacks against innocent civilians, particularly children, shock the soul. Acts of violence that should be unimaginable have been committed against innocent people by terrorists. These were the acts of despicable cowards and we will gather in solidarity to stand strong in the face of terror and show all of our Jewish residents that they have a safe home here in Greenwich, a Town that stands against acts of evil."

In April, the Board of Selectmen unanimously signed onto a statement that adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism. The Board made a commitment in that action to continue to stand against hate and bigotry.

"Antisemitism and bigotry have no home here in Greenwich," Camillo added. "I will be standing together with our community as they grieve. And we will show our support for everyone who has been impacted by this horrific attack."

Members of the public are invited to come and join in solidarity at Friday’s rally.

People will not be permitted to bring bags or backpacks to the event.
