Greenwich Home Heavily Damaged in Early Morning Fire
Flames were shooting from windows and through the roof when firefighters arrived.
An early Friday morning fire heavily damaged a Greenwich home that was under renovation.
The Greenwich emergency dispatch center received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 178 Weaver St. about 5:51 a.m., according to Assistant Greenwich Fire Chief Robert Kick.
Kick said that when Engine 4 from the Glenville station and he arrived at the scene “there was heavy fire through two windows, the second floor rear and a gable. There was a heavy volume of fire from the second floor, through the roof.”

An initial search of the single-family Colonial-style house indicated no one was in the structure, Kick said. “Because of the heavy fire condition we pulled everyone out and attacked the fire from the outside.”
It took the 40 to 50 career and volunteer firefighters about 50 minutes to bring the fire under control. “We had very icy conditions and fortunately we didn’t have any injuries,” Kick said.

Kick said this is the second fire in the home. He said the home was damaged by a fire about 10 years ago.
Personnel from the Greenwich Fire Marshal’s office were still at the scene at 10 a.m. investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
