Greenwich HS Band Director Claims He Was Denied Due Process

The hearing to appeal the termination of the popular teacher continued on Wednesday.

During a hearing to appeal the recommendation that he be fired, the attorney for Greenwich High School band director John Yoon questioned whether district administrators followed proper policy or denied the popular teacher due process.

Yoon’s attorney questioned former Greenwich Public School human resources director Robert Lichtenfeld on why it took administrators so long to notify Yoon of the bullying allegations that were made by two students and their parents, according to Greenwich Time. The attorney said it took more than a month after his client was suspended in late April to learn about the allegations.

During questioning, Lichtenfeld said that Yoon did not ask to review the information the district had in the case during two hearings with the teacher in May, according to the report.

School Superintendent William McKersie is seeking to fire Yoon who has a history of disciplinary actions during his 23-year career including at least three suspensions and six written warnings related to run-ins with students and colleagues, according to records obtained by the newspaper.

The hearings will continue next month.
