Greenwich HS Track Team Victorious Over Stamford, Ridgefield
The team improved its record to 5 - 2 with its recent victories.

The following Greenwich High School Track Team round up is by Coach Jeff Klein:
GHS vs. Stamford and Ridgefield
The team improved its record to 5 - 2 yesterday with wins over Stamford and Ridgefield. The final scores were GHS 93 vs. Ridgefield 57 and GHS 133 vs. Stamford 8. Team scoring leaders yesterday were Owen Bianchi with 28 points, Zane Nye 22.5, Anthony Hill 22, Tyler Blizzard with 21, and and Oliver Fulton with 16. There were numerous Personal and Seasonal Bests yesterday (PBs and SBs) and several new FCIAC and LL championship qualifiers as well.
Sprints: Zane Nye continued his impressive Freshman season with two individual wins and another as part of a relay. In the 100 he held off teammate Charlie Ducret to take the win with a time of 11.55. Ducret finished in 11.85, a PB and the first time he has dipped under 12 in the event. In the 200, Nye was once again pushed by Ducret as both set PBs finishing in 23.30 and 23.46 respectively, again taking the top two places. Also scoring for the Cardinals was Thomas Pastore who placed fifth overall and third against Stamford in the 100. In the 400, George Karakadas placed second overall with a time of 53.86 seconds. Helping the team effort were Noah Turkel and David Levine who placed 2nd and 3rd vs Stamford.

Nye, Pastore, Karakadas and Ducret teamed up to win the 4 X 100 meter relay. Their time of 45.43 was the team's fastest of the season. Karakadas and Pastore joined with Thomas Rouffiac and Stephen Burke to place second in the 4 X 400 meter relay.
The hurdles saw the Cardinal's take the win in both the 110 meter high hurdles and the 300 intermediate hurdles. In the 110's, Anthony Hill had a PB time of 16.73 to earn the victory and qualify for the State LL meet. With a late burst, Oliver Fulton passed a Ridgefield athlete at the finish to place second in the event. Fulton came back to win the 300 hurdles later in the meet, recording a time of 43 seconds. Hill was third with a PB time of 46.53 while Freshman Luc Bordier earned a team point, placing third versus Stamford in the intermediate hurdles.

Distance/Mid-Distance: The 800 saw Cardinal Akash Molekudy take 4th, running a PB time of 2:09. Also scoring for the team were Rouffiac and Ethan Todd who placed 2nd and 3rd versus Stamford. The 1600 was a very competitive race as two GHS runners and a Stamford athlete ran together ahead of the field for the 4 laps. In the end the Stamford runner came out with a narrow victory over Alex Kosyakov. Kosyakov ran a 3 second PB time of 4:50. In third overall was Alexander Bein (4:54). Stephen Burke was fourth in the event and third against Ridgefield adding to the team point total. Senior Kevin Collins was next achieving a PB time of 5:08 in the 1600. In the 3200, Aidan Brock took the lead from the start and was never headed as he cruised to the victory. Teammates Kosyakov and Bein finished in the next two spots for a sweep of the even for GHS. In the first running event of the meet, the 4 X 800 meter relay team of Burke, Collins, Brock and Todd took the top spot. Burke recorded the fastest split of 2:16.
Jumps: Owen Bianchi took two firsts and a second to rack up his 28 points in the jumps. He was the top finisher in the triple and longs jumps. He leaped 40 feet in the triple jump and 20 feet 2.5 inches in the long jump. He led a sweep of the triple jump for GHS as teammates Hill and Adam Sturza were second and third, both recording PB jumps. Sturza also had a PB in the long jump as he placed fifth overal and second against Stamford. Hill's PB was his third of the day (TJ and both hurdle races)! Also scoring for the team was Sebastian Jones who earned a third in the event against Stamford.
In the high Jump, Bianchi as second behind a Ridgefield athlete as he cleared 5 feet 6 inches. Hill placed third reaching 5 feet 4 inches while Sturza was fourth.
Throws: Tyler Blizzard had a big day as he had PBs throws in both the Shot Put and Javelin. In the shot put he took the top spot, throwing 42 feet 6 inches which qualfied him for the State LL meet later this month. He placed second in the javelin as he launched a toss of 138 feet 8 inches, reaching the FCIAC qualifying standard in that event. Brian Arnold placed second in the shot put throwing 36 feet 10 inches. Joe Kraninger was also earned points as he placed third against Stamford in the event. In the javelin, Paul Agresta was third with his best throw of the season, reaching 134 feet 10 inches. Kraninger also added a third in this event versus Stamford with his PB throw of 130 feet.
GHS was led by Ben Frey in the Discus throw as he placed third throwing 107 feet. That was a 15 foot PB for Frey! Blizzard and Kraninger also scored in the discus placing second and third against Stamford.
Next up for the team is the Middletown Invitational this Saturday, May 5th where our top athletes will compete. Next Tuesday, the team is away at Brien McMahon for a league meet.
The team is also doing a “Fill the Spikes” fundraising event this Sunday, May 6th in front of Old Greenwich School from 12-2pm. All proceeds collected go to benefit the track team directly by assisting with entry fees, equipment, travel expenses, meet expenses among other seasonal needs.
