Greenwich Launches New Emergency Alert System

The system will keep residents informed of emergencies and potential safety hazards or concerns.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich is launching a new alert system for residents to stay up to date with emergencies and potential safety hazards or concerns.

Powered by Everbridge, the system will allow the town to quickly issue messages to to the public. People can choose to have messages sent to their cell phones through a text or call, or to their home phones, their emails, or through the EverBridge app.

Residents can sign up by going online or by sending "Greenwich" as a text to 888-777. People can also sign up by getting the EverBridge app which is available both through Google Play and the Apple app store. More information about this new service can be found on the town website.

"During an emergency, time is of the essence, and getting out information is critical so residents can take precautions. This will be a great way for people to get needed information in real-time and can save lives in the case of an emergency," First Selectman Fred Camillo said in his recent newsletter to the community. "As we have seen, Greenwich has dealt with major storms and other emergencies and this is going to be a great way to make sure people know what they need to know."
