Greenwich Library Ready to Kick Off 2015 Summer Reading Program

This year's theme — 'Every Hero Has a Story.'

The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program at Greenwich Library is “Every Hero has a Story.”

The program will celebrate mythical heros, folk heros, historical heros (both young and old) and the local hero who lives down the street. Greenwich Library invites families to join the fun of summer reading and keep children reading during summer vacation so that valuable reading skills won’t be lost.

“Studies have shown that children who continue to read during the summer months perform significantly better than those who do not,” Children’s Librarian Deirdre Sullivan said in a statement.

All children who are reading independently are welcome to join the Summer Reading Program, while babies, toddlers and preschool children may participate in the Read-to-Me Club. Using “Summer Reader” online, children can track their reading using the online log, find out about special events, and earn prizes and chances to win one of four Grand Prizes.

Registration for the Summer Reading Program for all three library locations begins Monday, June 15 and continues through Aug. 8. Register in person or online at www.greenwichlibrary.org/children.

Summer Reading Kickoff at the Main Library

On Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m., family entertainer Scott Jameson will magically motivate children to read. Umbrellas will be plucked from thin air, a drawing will come to life, basketballs will be spun and juggled, and the audience will travel through time. Don’t miss it! Come to the show and register for Summer Reading Club. Raffles and refreshments will follow the performance. No tickets required. All ages welcome. For more information call (203) 622-7940.
