Greenwich Makes Decision On Parking Ban

The ban has been in effect since Wednesday evening when officials declared Greenwich was in a snow emergency.

GREENWICH, CT — The snow emergency that has been in effect in Greenwich since Wednesday evening, Jan. 3, will be canceled at noon today, Jan. 5, and the subsequent parking ban that accompanied the snow emergency will be lifted, announced First Selectman Peter Tesei.

"While the ban will be lifted, Highway Division crews from the Department of Public Works will continue to post temporary no parking/highway maintenance signs in various neighborhoods to allow for snow removal," wrote town officials in a statement. "As a reminder, there the Town ordinance requires Greenwich property owners be responsible for keeping all sidewalks along their property clear of snow and ice."

Officials added that the town prohibits plow contractors from pushing snow from driveways or parking lots onto Town streets. Such practice is "dangerous and impedes the Town’s snow removal efforts."

"If there is no other alternative to pushing snow into the street, the private plow driver must plow off the windrow left across the street by re-plowing until the road is safe," according to officials.
