Greenwich Man Accused Of Strangulation, Assault: Police

The incident allegedly occurred on June 29 on Prospect Street in central Greenwich.

GREENWICH, CT — A 48-year-old Greenwich man was arrested on charges of second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault and other violations following an alternation on Friday on Prospect Street, according to Greenwich police.

Benedito V. Barbosa, of Prospect Street, was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. after police were called to the scene on a report of a physical altercation.

Upon investigation, officers determined that Barbosa allegedly grabbed the victim by the neck, causing minor injuries, and subsequently would not let them contact authorities.

In addition to the above charges, Barbosa also was charged with:

  • Disorderly conduct
  • Interfering with an emergency call
  • Threatening, 2nd degree

He was held in lieu of bail of $10,000 and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 2.
