Greenwich Man Stole Sneakers from YMCA: PD

Police first went to the YMCA after the man was reportedly found in the women's locker room.

GREENWICH, CT—A Greenwich man was arrested after a woman called to report a man trying to steal an iPhone in the female locker room at the Greenwich YMCA, according to police.

Police responded Sept. 17 and interviewed the woman, who said that she was fearful of the man's demeanor and behavior, according to police.

Another person at the YMCA told police that a pair of men's sneakers were stolen from the men's locker room.

Brian Saavedra, 27, gave police consent to search his bag and they found the pair of stolen sneakers, according to police.

Saavedra admitted to taking the sneakers, police said. He misled officers by giving a different spelling of his name and a different date of birth.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny, interfering with police, disorderly conduct and criminal attempt.
