GREENWICH, CT — Members of the Greenwich Police Marine Section rescued a distressed man from the waters off Tod's Point on Wednesday afternoon, according to Lt. John Slusarz.

A witness who saw the man in the water, just off the rocky area near the picnic tables, called police just after 1 p.m.

A marine boat was already patrolling in the area when the department radioed to the crew about the man in the water.

"At this time of year, the water is very cold," Slusarz said. Unless you're protected by a wet suit or a dry suit, hypothermia can set in very quickly."

After the man - who police said is in his 50's - was pulled from the water, he was transported to an area hospital for treatment. His current condition, or whether he is still hospitalized, was not immediately known.
