On April 12, 2776, then Gen. Washington and his men passed through Greenwich in the early months of the American Revolution after his victory at the Siege of Boston, an important milestone of the war, according to the town and First Selectman Fred Camillo's recent weekly newsletter.
"A military expense report from that time shows definitive proof that Gen. Washington stopped at Knapp’s Tavern (aka Putnam Cottage) and this April 12 event will pay tribute to this day, the man and the fight for America’s independence as we move ever closer to America's 250th birthday this July," said Camillo, who will also deliver a proclamation to mark the occasion.
