Greenwich Mourns Death Of Longtime Cos Cob Fire Company President
Steven Francefort was active with the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company for 50 years.
GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich community is mourning the loss of longtime Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company President Steven Francefort, who died on Aug. 22 at the age of 69.
Francefort was active with the CCVFC for 50 years, including 40 as president. He first joined in October 1974 and rose through the ranks, getting appointed vice president in August 1978, according to a post by the fire company on Facebook.
On Jan. 3, 1980, Francefort was sworn in as president, and served in that role until 1983.

"Although health concerns briefly forced him to step down, Steve’s unwavering dedication brought him back to the role of vice president in December 1987. He was voted president again in 1988 and held that position ever since!" the CCVFC said. "Steve’s dedication to the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company and the residents of Cos Cob was nothing short of extraordinary. His tireless advocacy for volunteer services in Greenwich made a profound impact on our community, and he will be deeply missed."
Born and raised in Cos Cob, Francefort had several hobbies, including raising chickens, ducks, turkeys and goats. He also loved fishing, gardening, shooting and spending time with his family, according to his obituary.

The Board of Selectmen held a moment of silence at the beginning of its meeting on Tuesday for Francefort, as well as Dave Avitabile, a 28-year veteran of the Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol who died on Aug. 2 and Joseph "Doc" Orrico, a former postmaster in Cos Cob and umpire who died on Aug. 22.
