Greenwich Mourns Loss Of Civil Rights Leader Winston Robinson

Robinson was a longtime volunteer in town, and former head of the Greenwich chapter of the NAACP.

GREENWICH, CT — Winston Robinson, a volunteer, civil rights leader and the former head of the Greenwich chapter of the NAACP, died on Jan. 26. He was 70.

Robinson was actively involved in town over the years. He was a housing manager for Greenwich Communities (formerly known as the Housing Authority of Greenwich), and worked in the Greenwich Department of Human Services. He also served as treasurer on the board of directors for Barbara's House (formerly Community Centers Inc.), the board for the Greenwich Council - Boy Scouts of America and the board for the Red Cross.

He volunteered on the town's Community Development Advisory Committee, with the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich and the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee, among other organizations.

First Selectman Fred Camillo acknowledged Robinson's death this week on social media.

"Winston Robinson. I will miss my pal and our talks, trips to Ira's house, and boat rides to Great Captain's Island," Camillo said in a tweet. "One of the nicest men ever. A true gentleman, Winston will be remembered for his love of others, his hometown of Greenwich, and life."

The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich posted about Robinson on social media, showing him volunteering at BGCG events.

The YWCA of Greenwich said it's "mourning the loss of one of the Town’s civil rights leaders."

According to the Greenwich Time, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 18 at Bethel AME Church on Lake Avenue.
