Greenwich Parks & Rec Preps 2018 Fall Sports Programs
Baseball, soccer, pickleball and field hockey are scheduled.

From Greenwich Parks & Recreation: Greenwich Recreation is excited to announce that the Town’s Fall Field Hockey program will be returning in 2018. Greenwich Field Hockey is offered to youth in grades 1 through 8. The recreational field hockey program focuses on the fundamentals of field hockey and developing an enthusiasm for the sport. Experienced staff will provide valuable instruction. Participants in grades 1 and 2 will receive a one-hour weekly clinic on Saturday mornings. Participants in grades 3 through 8 will learn through practices and games on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The program starts September 8 and ends no later than November 10. All participants meet on Saturdays for a practice, game, or scrimmage. All field hockey participants will play at Benvenuto Field at Cos Cob Park. Some local travel is required for grades 3 through 8 to play away games with other Fairfield County and Westchester, NY teams.
Registration opens online for Greenwich residents on Monday, July 23. To register online go to www.greenwichct.org/webtrac and select “Activity Registration.” Mail-in registration begins Monday, August 6. In-person registration at the Parks and Recreation Office begins on Monday, August 20. Non-residents may register starting August 20. Space is limited and registration is first come, first serve. Greenwich Recreation is also seeking qualified, positive, and motivated candidates to serve as Field Hockey Staff (Directors and Instructors). The Department of Parks and Recreation will be offering adult pickleball at The Eastern Greenwich Civic Center for the fall season. Three regulation sized courts at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center gymnasium will be available for players on Monday’s from 11:30am – 2:00pm, Tuesday’s from 5:30pm – 8:00pm, and Thursday’s evenings from 11:30am – 2:00pm.

The adult pickleball program offers players a selection of up to 3 days per week at a multi-day discounted rate. Greenwich Seniors will receive an additional discount with their Senior park pass. Players that are looking to play occasionally may drop-in if space is available at a daily rate of $5.00. The fall season runs from September 17 until December 27.

Greenwich Recreation announces the return of fall soccer! Soccer sessions will be held on Saturdays from September 8 through October 27. Saturday, fall soccer is a fun, recreational, coed program for children ages 3 – 9. All participants are placed on a team.
The program focuses on the fundamentals of soccer including passing, dribbling, trapping, and shooting through skill work followed by modified games.

The Town has also partnered with Soccer Extreme to offer additional soccer sessions with experienced instructors. Soccer Extreme will be providing fall soccer for children ages 6 - 8 on Friday afternoons from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, starting September 7 and ending October 26. They will also provide programming for participants ages 9 – 12 on Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM starting September 8 and ending October 27. The fall baseball clinics are offered to boys ages 8 through 12 (must have turned 8 by the start of the program and not have turned 13). Experienced instruction is provided in 8 sessions, outdoors on local Greenwich fields. The clinics will be organized into two age groups: 8 & 9 years old and 10 – 12 years old. Instruction focuses on player pitching and catching, field positioning and strategy, fundamentals, batting, and game situations. More advanced skill work is provided for the 10 – 12 year olds as well as preparation for those players looking to move up to travel ball, Jr. Babe Ruth, or other advanced leagues.
