Greenwich PD Launches Holiday Seatbelt Enforcement Campaign
The initiative runs through June 3.

GREENWICH, CT — Starting today, May 21, the Greenwich Police Department will team with state and other local law enforcement agencies on the annual "Click It or Ticket" seatbelt compliance campaign, the department announced.
The initiative - in which additional police officers are deployed to look for motorists who are not wearing seatbelts - runs through June 3 and is partially geared around the Memorial Day weekend, the traditional kickoff to summer.
"'Click It or Ticket' isn’t about citations; it’s about saving lives," wrote officials in a statement. "In 2016, there were 10,428 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in the United States. To help prevent crash fatalities, we need to step up enforcement and crack down on those who don’t wear their seat belts."

That same year, seatbelts saved an estimated 14,668 lives of vehicle occupants 5 years old and older.
"If all passenger vehicle occupants 5 and older involved in fatal crashes had worn their seat belts, an additional 2,456 lives could have been saved in 2016 alone."
