GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is now accepting applications from Connecticut POST Certified Police Officers and out-of-state certified police officers or state troopers with at least two years of experience.

"'Service Above Self' is more than just a motto," the GPD said in a recent Facebook post about the ob listings. "Greenwich police officers desire to serve and make a difference in their communities daily. Officers patrolling the roadways are the most visible part of the Greenwich Police Department and provide the best in public safety services to the citizens of Greenwich."

First Selectman Fred Camillo spoke about a shortage of first responders during Thursday's Board of Selectmen meeting. Earlier this week, he swore-in six new firefighters and promoted two within the ranks.

"All around the country and here in Greenwich, we're not immune to it. There's been a lot of retirements, and less and less people are taking the tests now for fire and police, especially police," he said. "We're working hard on recruitment and also getting some transfers from other departments with experienced officers which is really good."
