Greenwich Police Department Mourns Death Of Retired Officer

James Pickens served in the Greenwich Police Department for 30 years.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department on Thursday announced the recent death of retired police officer James Pickens, who spent 30 years with the department from Aug. 8, 1976, to Sept. 1, 2006. Pickens died on Feb. 16 at the age of 72.

According to the GPD, Pickens served in the patrol and detective divisions, as well as the dispatch center.

"His personnel file contains many letters of thanks from grateful citizens and several commendations for his dedication to duty, including recognition for a CPR save," the GPD said in a Facebook post. "We join all members of the Department in extending our sincere sympathy to the Pickens family."
