He became a sworn Greenwich police officer on July 6, 1992, the department said.
Pannone served in the patrol division before being promoted to computer systems technician in 1995, according to the department. In 2004, he was promoted to sergeant and then to Lieutenant in 2016. Pannone also served as the Silver Shield President for several years.
Pannone's personnel file contains numerous lifesaving awards, citations and letters of gratitude from residents throughout this career, the department said.
Of note, he received the Officer of the Month Award in 2007 for helping and coordinating with the evacuation of over 50 residents from flooded sections in Greenwich following a storm. He also received a commendation in March 2005 for assisting in the investigation of a robbery of $2 million worth of jewelry, which ultimately led to the arrests of those responsible, the department said.
The department noted that Pannone is survived by his father, his four siblings, and his three children, one of whom is a current Greenwich dispatcher.
Services for Pannone will be announced at a later date, the department said.
