Greenwich Police Detective Retires After 26 Years
Detective Mark Solomon recently retired from the Greenwich Police Department after twenty-six years of service.

GREENWICH, CT — Detective Mark Solomon recently retired from the Greenwich Police Department after twenty-six years of service.

In 2001, Chief Peter Robbins appointed Solomon to the detective division, where he began as a youth officer (Special Victims Section) and then transferred to the investigations section.

Solomon has conducted numerous investigations involving all types of crimes, but excelled most at investigating financial crimes, such as identity theft, credit card-related crimes and fraud, according to police.
As a detective, Solomon spearheaded retail theft investigations that involved credit cards and criminal gangs coming to the central business district to commit large scale retail theft, police said. He also coordinated the investigations of skimming devices used to steal credit card information at gas pumps and ATMs.

In November 2008, Solomon began an assignment as a federal task force officer to the newly formed Secret Service Financial Crimes Task Force. During his tenure with the task force, Solomon investigated numerous large-scale financial crimes, many of which had international dealings, according to police.
"Mark has played a crucial role in the success of many State and Federal criminal investigations," Police Chief James Heavey said in a news release. "He has become a vital partner for State and Federal Law Enforcement in Connecticut due to his proficiency in financial crime investigations. His passion for seeking out the truth for financial crime victims was second to none."
Solomon has received numerous citations and awards for his police work, including the Lions Club Dr. John Clarke Award, Greenwich Police Officer of the Year (2015), the Dr. Henry Lee Law Enforcement Officer of the Year in Financial Crime Investigations and the I.A.F.C.I. International Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award.
In July 2019, Solomon was one of the first detectives in the Greenwich Police Department's history to be appointed as "Detective First Grade."
