Greenwich Police Mourn Death Of Retired Officer
The officer began his career with the Greenwich Police Department in August 1976. He retired in June 1988.
GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is mourning the death of retired officer Edwin A. French III. He was 73 years old.
French was born on July 16, 1951, in North Adams, Mass., — the eldest child of the late Edwin A. French II and Barbara French, the GPD said in a social media post Thursday.

French was raised in Greenwich and attended Greenwich Country Day School and Rye Country Day School before graduating from Greenwich High School.
French began his career with the GPD in August 1976. He retired in June 1988.

Prior to joining the GPD, French served as a volunteer firefighter. He also was a member of the Emerald Society Police Band where he played the bagpipes, something the GPD called "an expression of both his heritage and his strong commitment to tradition and camaraderie."
"Officer French will be remembered for his dedication to public service and his lasting connection to the Greenwich community," the GPD added. "At this time, no services have been announced."
