GREENWICH, CT — A Greenwich police officer is being recognized for his professionalism and composure in dealing with an armed individual in a vehicle during a call in December.
Officer Anthony D'Arco earned Officer of the Month honors "for his exceptional performance and exemplary commitment to public safety," the Greenwich Police Department said in an announcement this week.
"This distinction is awarded to department members who demonstrate outstanding achievement in areas such as investigative work, crime prevention, community relations, traffic safety, and acts of valor," the GPD said. On Dec. 10, 2025, dispatch notified officers of an alert on a license plate reader at Exit 4 on I-95 for a vehicle associated with a recent "violent domestic incident" in Norwalk, police said.
"The operator was reported to have discharged a firearm to shoot a canine and was believed to still be armed," police added. "Officer D’Arco quickly responded to the area and located the vehicle. He tactically positioned his patrol car, calmly communicated his status over the radio, and issued clear instructions to the operator, who remained inside the vehicle, ensuring the individual kept their hands visible while awaiting the arrival of additional units."

After backup units arrived, the individual was safely removed from the vehicle and a firearm was recovered from the center console, police said.
"The operator appeared intoxicated and was resistant to both officers and medical personnel," police said. "Throughout the encounter, Officer D'Arco demonstrated composure under pressure, maintained effective communication, and exercised strong command presence while managing an armed and noncompliant individual."
The GPD said D'Arco's actions "directly contributed to the safe and successful resolution of a potentially dangerous situation, safeguarding both officers and the public."
