Greenwich Police Warn Of New Phone Scam

Police said the scam involves someone purporting to be a Greenwich detective.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is warning the public about a phone scam involving a caller who is claiming to be a detective.

"The Greenwich Police Department has received information that residents have been receiving phone calls from 'detective Steve McMorris/ regarding an outstanding summons for their address," police said in a Facebook post Friday. "The caller claims to be from the Greenwich Police Department or the Old Greenwich Police Department."

Police stressed that the calls are part of a scam and urged residents not to reply.

There is no one employed by the GPD with that name, and an Old Greenwich Police Department does not exist.

"If you get this type of call, hang up the phone and ignore the call," police said.
