Greenwich Police Warn Residents Of Post Office Evaluation Scam

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich police are warning residents to be on the lookout for post office evaluation scams. In a recent Facebook post, police said scammers will send a letter to a resident's home, asking them to conduct "secret evaluations" at the nearest post office.

The scammer will ask the resident to purchase money orders in large amounts and evaluate the customer service level of postal employees. After purchasing the money orders with their own money, the resident is told to send them to a different location through FedEx.

The scammers will also tell residents they will be paid back, plus fees, for their time and service once the evaluation center receives the money orders, police said. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"This scam is just one of many that prey on people in need," police said on Facebook. "The letter looks official and has US Post Office headings. It will also explain how many people can use extra money due to COVID-19."

Residents who think they may have been contacted about these types of scams can call the Greenwich Police Department.

"As with most scams," police said, "if it is too good to be true, it isn't."
