Greenwich Public Schools Human Resources Director Announces Retirement

Robert Lichtenfeld has held the position since 2011.

Greenwich Public Schools Human Resources Director Dr. Robert Lichtenfeld has announced his retirement from the position he’s held since 2011.

Lichtenfeld’s retirement will be effective with the appointment of a new director.

Lichtenfeld, a Greenwich resident, has been with the school district since 2009 when he was hired as the district’s managing director of operations. At the time, Lichtenfeld had recently retired from the Katonah-Lewisboro Schools after 29 years, serving as the district’s superintendent for the last eight years.

Greenwich Schools Superintendent William S. McKersie said in a statement, “I commend Bob for his tireless service to the public schools and the Town of Greenwich. He has brought important rigor to the Department of Human Resources, building strong relationships with all bargaining units and the Town’s Human Resources Department. Bob is known for standing up for what is best for our students and ensuring that the staff is well supported. We wish him all the best in his retirement.”

Lichtenfeld began his education career as an elementary and special education teacher in New York City. He also has served as principal of Rye Country Day School, the Lewisboro Elementary School, John Jay Junior High School, and as assistant superintendent and superintendent of the Katonah-Lewisboro School District for 16 years.
