Greenwich Reads Together Programs Launched

From GPS: As part of the community-wide reading program Greenwich Reads Together, the Greenwich Public Schools will host several programs and author visits to support the community’s reading of Code Girls: The Untold Story of the American Women Code Breakers of WWII by Liza Mundy. In October and November, the school community has multiple opportunities for students and teachers to engage in activities centered on this bestselling book and the companion books selected for younger readers: Code Girls: The Young Readers Edition by Liza Mundy and Grace Hopper: Queen of Computer Codeby Laurie Wallmark.

According to Superintendent of School Ralph Mayo, “I am proud to say that our school district has partnered with Greenwich Library since its inception to promote this wonderful event. As the former Principal of Eastern Middle School, I have witnessed over the years how the reading of a common book is able to bring our students together to discuss some very powerful topics. We, in Greenwich, benefit from forums like this to keep us engaged in big ideas and to learn how individuals have been able to overcome discrimination, fascism and natural disasters through courage and perseverance. The Greenwich Library should be proud of their work and our Principals should be congratulated for hosting events throughout the district to emphasize the importance of this program.”
