Dr. Ted Blaine named interim chair of Yale Department of Orthopaedics & opens new Yale Orthopaedics at Long Ridge Medical Center in Stamford

Greenwich resident Dr. Theodore Blaine has been named Yale Medicine’s interim chairman of Orthopaedics. Dr. Blaine is a professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine and team physician for the Yale University athletic teams. He leads a team of 41 clinical and research faculty in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and 28 residents and fellows at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Blaine and 12 other Yale Orthopaedic surgeons began seeing patients this week at the Long Ridge Medical Center on Long Ridge Road in Stamford.

Dr. Blaine, who has lived in Old Greenwich since 2004, is a former competitive athlete in football, swimming and lacrosse and graduated from the Avon Old Farms School in 1984 and Princeton University in 1988. Dr. Blaine became interested in orthopaedics after he sustained shoulder injuries from swimming and lacrosse. He has been on the orthopaedic faculty at Columbia University in New York and Brown University in Rhode Island and joined the faculty at Yale in 2011 where he has been chief of shoulder and elbow surgery and director of Fellowship Education before becoming the chairman of Orthopaedics in March 2016. That position had previously been held by Dr. Gary Friedlaender for the past 30 years.

Dr. Blaine has been on the staff of Greenwich Hospital and Stamford Hospital since 2004 and maintains offices in Stamford where he has partnered with Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine physicians. At the new Yale Orthopaedics offices at the Long Ridge Medical Center, Dr. Blaine also leads a team of 13 Yale Medicine physicians who will be providing care for patients in their new offices at 260 Long Ridge Road in Stamford. Yale Medicine is partnering with Greenwich Hospital, a member of the Yale New Haven Health System, to open this new location. This state-of-the-art medical facility will provide first-rate medical and surgical care for those patients with musculoskeletal disorders by bringing together providers from Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Neurosurgery and Neurology as part of the Yale Center for Musculoskeletal Care.

In addition to Dr. Blaine, the following Yale Orthopaedics providers will be at the new Yale Medicine location at the Long Ridge Medical Center:
