Greenwich Runner Captures State Cross Country Championship

A Cardinal sophomore prevailed in the Class LL girls race Friday at Wickham Park.

MANCHESTER, CT — A Greenwich High School sophomore edged a veteran rival to claim the individual championship at the CIAC Class LL girls cross country championships Friday morning at Wickham Park.

Mari Noble covered the 3.1 mile course in 18:57, nipping Danbury senior Lauren Moore by two seconds. The Cardinals placed fourth in team competition, with top 25 performances also turned in by Caroline Webb (14) and Zoe Harris (25).

The top two teams and 12 individuals from each class advance to the State Open, scheduled for Nov. 2, also at Wickham Park.
