GREENWICH, CT — School begins Sept. 1 in Greenwich, and the look and feel will be similar to the end of last year, according to an update from the school district.

In a recent letter to families, the district said the Greenwich Police Department will be mobilizing additional officers to have a larger presence in and around school buildings for the first few weeks of school.

The Board of Education on Monday will be focused on longer term solutions. School officials have worked with the GPD throughout the summer to analyze improvements to security and safety.

The board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m., to discuss an interim appropriation request to add a building monitor for each K-8 school, additional hardware and camera installations and additional school-focused patrol cars for east, west and central sections of town.

The request would then be submitted, likely after Monday's meeting, in partnership with the GPD to the Board of Estimate and Taxation, and ultimately the Representative Town Meeting.
