Greenwich Winds Down Joaquin Storm Prep

The town will continue to monitor the storm; emergency management personnel, department heads hold last storm-related meeting.

Greenwich officials say they will continue to monitor weather conditions over the weekend but now that Hurricane Joaquin is on track to stay out to sea, the town’s emergency management team held its final meeting Friday afternoon.

“The town and its departments continue to monitor and address weather-related issues as they materialize,” First Selectman Peter Tesei said in a statement released Friday afternoon.

As winds and rain continue from the current storm system, officials said, “It is recommended that property owners secure any outdoor equipment or belongings on their property. Construction sites should take the appropriate steps to secure materials and adhere to town regulations on sedimentation control.”

Earlier Friday, state officials said they were relieved it appeared that Joaquin appears to be on track to bypass Connecticut and will leave ocean swells, rip currents and some coastal flooding in its wake.

Greenwich officials also continued to advise residents to prepare a storm kit for their homes and families and to sign up for the town’s reverse 911 emergency notification system.
