Greenwich To Withdraw Mask Mandate At Town Facilities Feb. 18

GREENWICH, CT — Citing improving COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalization rates, First Selectman Fred Camillo announced that Greenwich's mask mandate for town facilities will be lifted Feb. 18. The mandate has been in effect since Dec. 22, 2021.

"Face masks will be optional for both visitors and employees. For those who are uncomfortable in public settings or are immune-compromised, please wear a mask," said Camillo, who made the announcement in his weekly email to residents last Friday.

"Please keep in mind that private businesses and stores have the option to set their own mask policy, so carry a mask with you," Camillo added. "Also, please remember that the Governor’s face mask requirement for students remains in effect until Feb. 28 and that it is up to the school superintendent and Board of Education to decide how to proceed after that date."

The Greenwich Board of Education has not yet scheduled a meeting to discuss masking policy.

Camillo's announcement comes as COVID-19 cases continue to decline, both locally and around the state.

As of Feb. 11, there were 177 active COVID-19 cases in Greenwich being tracked by the health department, down from 195 the previous week. There were also 10 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at Greenwich Hospital, down from 18.

Across the Yale New Haven Health System, there were 127 patients being treated. A week prior, there were 235 patients.

On Feb. 11, Greenwich Public Schools reported 17 new COVID-19 cases among students and service providers. The high for any single update in 2022 was 392 on Jan. 4.
