Greenwich Woman Tried to Set off Molotov Cocktail in Times Square: Police

The incident occurred Friday evening in Manhattan.

NEW YORK CITY — Ludivine Baugier DeChevestre, 24, of Greenwich, Connecticut was arrested and charged with attempting to light a Molotov cocktail in Times Square on Friday night, according to police.

Police officers were able to defuse the situation quickly and without incident. The situation occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at West 46th Street and Seventh Avenue when officers witnessed the woman trying to light a bottle containing an unknown liquid, police said. The woman was apprehended before she was able to light it, police said.

DeChevestre has been charged with several offenses including reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and placing a false bomb or hazardous substance. The woman is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at Roosevelt Hospital in New York, police said.

The NYPD said the unknown liquid in the bottle was undergoing further testing.

Gothamist reports that police officers arrested the Greenwich woman after witnesses called 911 reporting there was someone walking around possibly with a bomb.
