GREENWICH, CT — Tamarack Country Club, a member-owned private club in Greenwich, kicked off its golf season on May 10 with a grand opening celebration for members and distinguished guests.

The evening featured the official unveiling of the club’s newly transformed golf course following a nine-month master plan renovation by renowned golf course architect Brian Schneider. The event also marked the opening of its highly anticipated full-service outdoor poolside bar, the club’s latest dining and social amenity.

Opened for play in 1929, Tamarack’s 18-hole championship golf course was originally designed by Charles H. Banks, a protégé of Golden Age architects C. B. MacDonald and Seth Raynor, who was well known for incorporating dramatic architectural features into his designs.

Over the past 95 years, Tamarack’s golf course has been considered among Connecticut’s finest, ranked in the top give in the state by Golf Digest, and featured by Golfweek as a top 200 classic golf course in the United States.

Beginning in 2023, the club enlisted Schneider and his team at Renaissance Golf Design to ensure that the course remains a world-class Golden Age design and builds upon Banks’ original vision.

Aided by aerial photographs of the course and other historical footage, Schneider painstakingly restored all the course’s bunkers to Banks’ original specifications. He also removed non-original bunkers, restored green surrounds, rebuilt tee complexes (some with newly added back and forward tees), introduced new bunkers, added berms and mounding, and initiated a tree management program to open sight lines as well as enhance turf quality and playability.

“With Brian Schneider's master plan renovations completed, the stature of our award-winning golf course will continue to grow, and our members will enjoy a truly spectacular test of golf,” said Tamarack Country Club President Chris Thompson in a news release

Schneider added, “I am deeply grateful to the club for the opportunity to restore the drama of Charles Banks' work and for their gracious hospitality throughout this wonderful project."

The golf course's official re-opening event also served as a welcoming for Tamarack’s new Head Golf Professional Michael Ballo Jr.

Ballo was formally introduced to the membership by legendary PGA Professional Bob Ford, who previously served as the head professional at Oakmont Country Club and Seminole Golf Club.

Ballo will oversee golf operations, tournaments, instruction, and merchandising.

In addition to its stellar golf, Tamarack members enjoy an array of social and dining amenities, the latest of which is its newly constructed pool area bar.

Located on the expansive 13,000 square foot freshly resurfaced pool deck, the covered outdoor full-service bar will offer a variety of quick bites, drinks, cocktails, and more for those enjoying a day poolside.

The bar will also dual-purpose as a halfway house, allowing golfers to grab refreshments mid-round as they make their way down Tamarack’s hole No. 10.

The 1,800 square foot pool bar boasts an 85-inch large-screen television flanked by two 65-inch televisions that will broadcast a range of sports and entertainment programming, surround-sound speakers, ten comfortable bar-side chairs, and a newly added table and lounge seating area.

The bar and seating area will become a new social centerpiece of the club, serving as a venue for a robust calendar of events and activities during the spring, summer, and fall seasons.

“We are tremendously excited to be opening our new Pool Bar. This will add a new multi-purpose venue to our club - instantly enhancing the member experience at the pool, on the course, and at special events,” said Tamarack Vice President and Chairman of the Construction Committee Richard Wood, in a news release.
