Gretchen Scott Designs Celebrates 2 Years In Greenwich

GREENWICH, CT — Gretchen Scott Designs, a women's clothing store that also offers accessories and home goods, celebrated two years in business in Greenwich last week.

First Selectman Fred Camillo and Selectwoman Lauren Rabin stopped by the store at 73 Greenwich Ave., for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the milestone.

"It's a great accomplishment. The store is inviting from the outside, but when you walk in it really catches you. It's a lot bigger, it's lighter," Camillo said. "It's been a tough couple years [because of the pandemic], and it's been a testament to Gretchen Scott to not only stay in business, but thriving and being here. We wish them the best in the next 25 years."

Camillo urged residents to shop local this holiday season.

"I think for every $100 people spend, $68 comes back to the local economy when you shop at a local store, as opposed to a chain. If you have to make a choice, we prefer you shop locally," Camillo said.

Rabin said she enjoyed the selection at Gretchen Scott Designs.

"What I really enjoy is that you can find everything for any season. A lot of the time stores have what's in season. There's a wide selection and collection for yourself and gifts," she said.

According to the company website, the brand "embodies a place that is chic, joyous, playful and fun."

Gretchen Scott, who created the brand from her living room, seeks clothing that packs easily, and can transition from day to night, office to dinner or cocktails, and from the carpool to the swimming pool, the company's website says.

The brand's mantra of “Laugh More, Gripe Less, Ignore Critics, Say Yes, Order Dessert, Love Life" is sewn into everything the company makes, the website says.

"We want women to come in here and have a positive experience and have a wonderful experience, and to see all of our fun, happy and high quality products. We have everything from holiday to resortwear," said Kendra Wingate, manager of the Greenwich location.

There are also stores in Jupiter and Naples, Fla., and Charleston, S.C.

Wingate said the community in Greenwich has been very welcoming and supportive over the last two years.

"All of the women who have come in have been very supportive and the residents of the town of Greenwich are very nice. We appreciate the support for the past two years," she said.
