Connecticut Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Expected Thursday
The National Weather Service issued a couple of advisories for today, and we may see thunderstorms later this afternoon. Here's the latest.

What drought? It seems Connecticut’s in a pattern of heavy rain followed by a nice day, followed again by heavy rain, and that’s what we’re looking at on Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch and Hazardous Weather Outlook for Connecticut Thursday. We will see heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible too.
For southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service says, “Rainfall, heavy at times, through this afternoon before gradually decreasing from west to east tonight. Thunderstorms with locally heavier rainfall rates of at least 1 inch per hour are also possible, especially during this afternoon. Any new rainfall will exacerbate already swollen rivers and streams."
“Total rainfall of around one to two inches expected, with locally higher amounts possible especially with any thunderstorms. In addition to the potential for river flooding, urban and small stream flooding remains likely,” the weather service states for southern Connecticut. For Hartford and Tolland counties, the weather service states that “A low pressure system will bring another round of soaking rainfall to southern New England into early this evening. The heaviest rain along with embedded thunderstorms is expected between 1 and 8 pm this evening."
“Widespread 0.75 to 1.50 inches of rain are expected through early this evening with localized 2"+ amounts possible. Recent rainfall has caused significant rises in area rivers and streams. This will likely result in some minor river and stream flooding developing later today into Friday."

“In addition, there is also potential for moderate urban and poor drainage flooding with heightened concerned during the evening rush hour. Rainfall rates up to 1 inch per hour are possible in any thunderstorms,” the weather service states.
There is some good news. Once we get past Thursday the weather picture improves greatly beginning this weekend, and we could see temps into the 70s next week in Connecticut.
WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote that there will be a lot of rain, and it will feel cold with temps only in the 40s for most of the day. Friday will be dryer, he wrote, and some light rain is possible Friday afternoon.
"The weekend does look better with clearing skies Saturday afternoon and sunshine with warmer temperatures on Sunday," Simmons wrote.
