He Tried To Hide Stolen Handbag And Get It Later: Greenwich PD

The incident allegedly occurred on Sunday, Jan. 13.

GREENWICH, CT — A 24-year-old New York man was arrested by Greenwich police over the weekend on a charge of third-degree larceny after he allegedly stole a $2,150 handbag from a Greenwich Avenue retailer and hid it to retrieve it later, according to authorities.

Joshua J. Rodriguez was apprehended at about 5 p.m. on Jan. 13 when he allegedly went to pick up the handbag at an undisclosed central Greenwich location. The name of the Greenwich Avenue store from which the handbag was stolen also was not disclosed.

Rodriguez allegedly hid the handbag behind a air conditioning unit, but Greenwich police had learned of its location and set up surveillance to see who would retrieve it. After showing up at the spot, Rodriguez placed the handbag under his coat, and officers arrested him.

In a statement, Greenwich Police Lt. John Slusarz said that Rodriguez allegedly admitted to stealing the item in order to resell it for a profit.

Rodriguez was held in lieu of bail of $1,000 and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 28.
