Helicopter Carrying Greenwich's Shane McMahon Makes Emergency Landing Off Long Island

GILGO BEACH, NY - A helicopter carrying the WWE's Shane McMahon made an emergency landing in the Atlantic Ocean off Gilgo Beach Wednesday morning. It happened around 10:25 a.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

McMahon, the son of WWE owner and chairman Vince McMahon, and another person on board the Robinson R44 escaped injury. The FAA said the helicopter had taken off from Westchester County Airport and the pilot made a mayday call before putting the helicopter down in the water. The FAA described the incident as a crash, but photos and video from the scene show the helicopter resting on pontoons.

The helicopter is designed to make water landings, NBC 4 reported.

Emergency responders picked up the two people on the helicopter and brought them to the shore, the FAA said.

Two lifeguards at the Town of Babylon's Gilgo Beach kayaked out to the helicopter and helped rescue the pair on board, according to Newsday.

McMahon, 47, spoke to reporters after the landing.

"It's very unsettling you know when all of a sudden you have something happen, you hear a bang and then you start to say you are going to do an emergency landing in the water," McMahon said.
