GREENWICH, CT — A garage was heavily damaged and a home sustained "substantial" smoke damage after a fire broke out in the Glenville area of town Sunday, according to new details shared by fire officials.

In an email to Patch, Deputy Fire Chief Brian Koczak said Tuesday the fire broke out around 3 p.m. at a two-story, single-family home. When firefighters arrived, they noticed smoke coming from the building. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Crews were able to contact a resident of the home, who confirmed everyone who lived there was out of the building, Koczak said.

Firefighters soon located the fire in the home's attached two-car garage and quickly worked to extinguish the flames, Koczak said.

After putting out the fire in the garage, firefighters also stretched a hose through the front door to the basement to address "any extension" into the main house, Koczak said. Crews ultimately determined the fire had been contained to the garage, which was heavily damaged by the flames, according to Koczak.

"The home sustained substantial smoke damage throughout," Koczak said in an email to Patch.

No injuries were reported. Two vehicles were in the garage at the time of the fire, according to Koczak.

The home is located on Alden Road, according to the Greenwich Time.

Four engines, one truck and one car responded to the fire, according to officials. Additionally, two firefighters received minor injuries as result of the fire, Koczak said.

The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
