Inaugural 'Art On Sound Beach Avenue' Event Scheduled For Sept. 18
The Greenwich Board of Selectmen approved a road closure for the event last week.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a road closure last week for the inaugural "Art On Sound Beach Avenue" event in Old Greenwich
Richard Fulton and Marcos Torno went before the board on behalf of the Old Greenwich Merchants Association to ask for the closure, which was already approved by the Greenwich Police Department's traffic division.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 18 on Sound Beach Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The show will have over 60 local, up and coming artists, exhibiting and selling their works to the community. There will also be entertainment for children, such as face painters, balloon shapers, caricaturists and areas where children can create their own art.
Fulton and Torno said they expect about 50-60 exhibitors and 600-plus attendees.

A road closure and detour pattern will be in place similar to Old Greenwich's First Light event in December.
Along with showcasing local artists, Fulton and Torno said the event will benefit local restaurants and retail stores on Sound Beach Avenue and Arcadia Road.
"When I go to Norwalk and Stamford, they have all these street fairs, which bring people into town and they end up using the restaurants and delis. They go into the shops. That's my main idea: to promote the businesses in Old Greenwich and at the same time help local artists," Torno said.
First Selectman Fred Camillo agreed.
"I think successful events like that are an attraction for businesses," Camillo said. "It's a great time."
Fulton said proceeds from the event will go into providing upgrades to Old Greenwich, and to putting on other seasonal events.
