Interim Administrator Appointed For Greenwich High School

Matthew Hartigan has been named the interim pupil personnel services administrator at Greenwich High School for the 2020-21 school year.

GREENWICH, CT — Matthew Hartigan has been named the interim pupil personnel services administrator at Greenwich High School for the 2020-21 school year, district officials announced Wednesday.

He was appointed to the position, which he began this week, by Superintendent Toni Jones. He replaces Carleen Wood, who recently retired from the district. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"Matthew will be a great addition to our PPS administrative team serving the needs of our students at Greenwich High School," Jones said in a statement. "He enters this role with extensive experience in both educational administration as well as direct classroom experience serving in numerous roles working directly with students in special education."

Hartigan will be responsible for the PPT/IEP process, supporting students within the academic lab classes, as well as the RTI/SAT process to "ensure consistent application of interventions and data collection," among other responsibilities, officials said.

Hartigan most recently served as the interim special education program administrator for the district and as a special education/resource room teacher at Greenwich High School.

"I am excited to begin my position as the interim pupil personnel services administrator for Greenwich High School," Hartigan said in a statement. "I look forward to working in my new role with students, staff and families in supporting the growth of our students in achieving their goals."

As a member of the Greenwich Public Schools special education department for nearly 15 years, Hartigan said he has worked in various settings throughout the district and collaborated with PPS administrators, GHS administrators and students, staff and families throughout the district.

"I plan to bring this experience and my overall enthusiasm to the position," Hartigan said, "and I look forward to providing leadership and support to our students, staff and families during these challenging times."

Hartigan has spent his entire teaching and administrative career serving the students and community of Greenwich Public Schools. Prior to his administrative role, Hartigan was an administrator substitute at Riverside School for the 2019-20 school year, supporting the school's leadership with teacher evaluations and walkthroughs and supporting school staff with student interventions and behavior monitoring.

Prior to teaching at Greenwich High, Hartigan taught at Western Middle School for four years as a special education teacher. He began his teaching career in 2008 at the Arch Alternative High School, now named Windrose.

He holds degrees from St. Lawrence University, Southern Connecticut State University and the University of Bridgeport.
